Amaurea Films

Amaurea Films explores new forms of visual storytelling – from documentary and short film, to animated trailers and digital interpretations, to original creations.

Every book we publish begins as a fully human-made work of writing, editing, translation and design. Here, we create companion pieces that reimagine those stories in moving images – offering fresh perspectives, inviting new audiences and experimenting with how words can live on screen.

Whether crafted with cameras, animation tools or generative media, these projects are always rooted in the worlds and voices of our authors. They are not replacements for the books, but imaginative echoes – another way to step inside.

    First Second

First Second tells the story of two solitary figures - one aboard a never-stopping train, the other waiting endlessly at a forgotten desert station - whose worlds collide when the impossible happens: the train stops. In the wreckage of silence, they draw from one another the first moment of change, the first second of time that truly matters.

    Psycho Drone

As part of the film course I'm in with NYFA, I had to make a short film inspired by Hitchcock's Psycho. Considering I had recently bought myself a drone, I figured this was the perfect opportunity to use it. This film is made almost entirely using that drone.

    Living Between Hurricanes

A film about the elements – hurricanes and rain, the sea and the earth. About a fishing port on the north coast of Cuba which has seen better days: Caibarién, where Hurricane Irma – one of the most powerful ever to sweep the Caribbean – made landfall on 9th September 2017.

About the effects of climate across the centuries in a Caribbean island sucked into global markets for its commodity crops – tobacco, coffee and above all, sugar. How sugar changed the landscape, through deforestation and soil exhaustion.

About the collapse of sugar and the encroachment of a new commodity market – tourism.

About the growing threat from climate change, and the move towards reforestation, ecotourism and sustainable farming.
