Amaurea now on Substack
Amaurea Creative Productions has now joined Substack! You can find us here: https://amaurea.substack.com/
Our intention is for this to be a space in which we can showcase, and draw attention to, some of the work that we are collaborating on: books, films, visual media and hybrid forms of storytelling.
Starting soon, we will begin serialising selected works from our catalogue - sharing stories chapter by chapter, letting them unfold slowly, freely, and in public. Think of it as a return to the roots of storytelling: part reading room, part correspondence, part shared discovery.
In time, these serialised extracts will be accompanied by audio recordings and visual adaptations.
We hope you will check these out, and subscribe to our Substack.
The first of these will be The Hobby by Lisa St Aubin de Terán - a haunting and suspenseful novel about abuse, justice and memory.
When police pay a visit to an elderly peeping tom, they unexpectedly stumble upon a loose thread that leads detective John Custer into a murky world of sex crimes and serial killings, of hidden graves and socially impeccable paedophiles. Ignoring the scepticism of his colleagues and superiors, Custer doggedly follows his intuition that there really is something very wrong that needs to be discovered, however cold the trail seems to have become.
Based upon a true story of a bizarre and tragic case of child abuse, The Hobby is a psychological crime thriller, ranging from the fan club of a 1940s child star, through Istanbul and war-torn Burma and Cairo, to 1980s Britain. Custer and his assistant, Sergeant Jolly Campbell, seek to bring justice to the forgotten victims, while themselves going through their own quest for personal redemption.
The first chapter will be releasing on our Substack on Thursday 24th July, with subsequent chapters coming out every week.
Coming soon, the author herself will be providing readings of the book, which we will also share.
