British Coast - Stage 062 - Eastoke to Langstone

14th February 2026. Sunrise over Hayling Island, setting out from Eastoke along the sea front of South Hayling, before rounding the shingle bank of Gunner Point at the mouth of Langstone Harbour. Across the narrow strait, Fort Cumberland announces the start of Portsmouth and its historic fortresses. But Hayling Island continues past the ferry, and round the east shore of Langstone Harbour, a designated reserve for marine fowl, one of the most important on the south coast. Once famed for its oysters, the local industry requiring its own railway line to extract to the neighbouring towns. But all that’s left of the line are the decaying remains of its former viaduct, and its route turned into a pleasure walk. But the oyster beds can still be seen, now filled with birds. Across the water, the urban skyline of Portsea Island. 10 miles (Total walked 917 miles, 24 in Hampshire)
