British Coast - Stage 053 - Eastbourne to Birling Gap

17 May 2025. The cliffs of Beachy Head are truly astounding, above all when seen from below. Fortuitously arriving with the tide well out, it was possible to walk around the base of the cliffs, along the rocky shoreline. Instead of the usual trek over the cliff tops. The white cliffs towering majestically above me. The haunting, lonely cries of the seals on Head Ledge. Getting an early start at sunrise, it was all going so well. But then a single misplaced step on a smooth rock beneath the high-tide mark, and it was all brought to a premature end. Assistance found at Birling Gap, with its stunning views down the length of the Seven Sisters cliffs. 6 miles. (Total walked, 786 miles; 48 of those in Sussex)
