British Coast - Stage 057 - Littlehampton to Selsey

16th August 2025. Back down the other side of the River Arun, past what is left of Littlehampton’s history as a shipwright’s (and smuggler’s) town. Then the long expanse of Climping Beach, to the strange stone outcrops of the Elmer Rock Islands, while passing Middleton-on-Sea. And the long approach towards Bognor, discovering at the entrance Felpham, where William and Catherine Blake themselves enjoyed the sea. Bognor Regis may have a somewhat negative reputation, because of the Butlins camp (the second after Skegness), but it is an unfair reputation. The place may have a bit of a rundown seaside resort feel about it, but it also has an unpretentious charm about it. The long shingle beach continues towards Pagham, and the interruption of Pagham Harbour. Once upon a time an actual working harbour, now tidal salt marsh. A long trek round, passed Sidlesham Quay, before back to the coast and the final stretch into Selsey. Rounding Selsey Bill, the Isle of Wight comes into view, and on the horizon Portsmouth beckons. 20 miles (Total walked 856 miles, 118 miles in Sussex)
